Description

Currently we are looking for a BI and Data Warehousing Solution Architect for our Kyiv office to make the team even stronger.

We are looking to build and strengthen its Solutions Architecture teams across the countries in Central and Eastern Europe. In this role, you will be the subject matter expert responsible for business enablement both on the client side defining the architectural choices during all stages of exciting presales opportunities for world leading companies and on delivery side implementing them, as well as providing thought leadership within the fast-growing BI and Big Data Solution Practice and Competency Center.

Responsibilities

• Leads the strategic planning, development and implementation of medium-to-large BI/DW solutions or a component of a larger solution. Leads on all stages of presales activities for such projects. Works on architectural POCs, where required;
• Interacts with clients, advises and leads the translation of business requirements and models into appropriate architectural designs to ensure that business needs are met;
• Works directly and collaboratively with clients, external data providers, and other key stakeholders to ensure that the solution’s concept/vision is understood and agreed upon;
• Actively contributes to project review and planning sessions. As needed, leads the solution development, drives and supervises end-to-end development cycle (SDLC), and participates in the project start-up;
• Responsible for applications-related quality, performance, availability, scalability, security, and integrity, ensuring application usability, for instance, through a high-quality functional interface to applications, taking responsibility for one of more of specific areas, mentioned above;
• Responsible for ensuring architectural consistency of recommended technology and its integration with the client’s applications and infrastructure. Identifies and mitigates risks associated with specific solution in known contexts;
• Performs the architectural knowledge transfer from the project development team to the post-go-live support team as well as for creation the project architecture post-mortem case study;
• Develops reusable assets, development methods, processes, best practices to accelerate delivery. Participates, on an on-going basis, in strategic visioning activities for the practice and competency center;
• Evaluates hardware and software platforms, performs benchmarking, and shares the summary results;
• Keeps pace with innovative technologies. Writes technical reviews and internal newsletter articles and blogposts for development community. Participates in creation of general-interest white papers and blueprints. Participates in internal/externals events as a speaker. Serves as a go-to resource for EPAM regarding his/her technologies of specialization;
• Conducts technical interviews with candidates to chief-level BIDW Developer and entry-level Solution Architect (SA) positions. Mentors one or more such colleagues. Provides technical guidance and career-planning assistance.

Requirements

• Must be capable of leadership (influence management) and pragmatism;
• 7+ years' experience in Data Architecture, Data modeling, and Database design, with hands-on development of all logical layers of a solution (Data Integration/ETL, Data Warehousing, Reporting, Analytics, OLAP) and solution cross-cutting concerns (security, scalability, performance, etc.) for parts of the solution;
• 5+ years of full lifecycle data warehousing and BI experience;
• 2+ years as Solution Architect, doing solution architecture design and architecture review for small-to-medium size solutions based on familiar technology stack;
• 3+ years of industry experience in 5+ projects in Team Lead and/or PM roles with constant hands-on work;
• 3+ production architecture designs and review activities with available track record and available solution architecture documents and/or architecture review reports for the last 2 years (preferably with different technology domains or different application types or different parts of the same big solution);
• Ability to work with multiple and various business intelligence tools and applications, including deep expertise in two or more of the tools in EACH of the solution components: Data Integration/ETL, Data Warehousing, Reporting, Analytics, OLAP;
• Knowledge of at least three business domains (Travel and Hospitality, Finance, Retail, etc.);
• General understanding of application design patterns outside of primary technology domain (major BI vendor stack, such as Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, SAS, etc.) context bounds, as well as practical experience in several BI solution design patterns;
• Track record (2+ projects) of working directly with the customer (i.e. regularly facing customer directly) both remotely and on-site;
• Practical experience with full life cycle of software development processes like RUP or "Waterfall", Agile (SCRUM, XP, etc.). Experience establishing appropriate implementation methodology to successfully develop & deploy solution;
• Demonstrated experience in solution cost estimation (including tools, tasks, complexity, labor & time) at coarse grain levels, with supporting material evidence;
• Fluent oral and written English;
• Ability to travel up to 10-30%.

Nice to have

• Experience in design of one or more of the following: Master Data Management, Data Governance, Advanced Analytics / Data Science, Big Data solutions;
• Experience working with Data Warehousing Appliances (including but not limited to Netezza, Exadata, Teradata, etc;
• Ability to analyze and propose to customer cross-industry or cross-platform solutions;
• 2+ mentored SA's in last 2 years;
• Runs technology community or tech. talks series;
• Ability to travel up to 30-50%.
